Q11086 - FIX: PTclient on 64bit machine can cause CPU spiking

If you are noticing an issue where on a 64 bit client machine, one of the PTclients in Task manager “hovering” around 50% CPU usage.  And where that same machine updates it’s last polled time every 1 second.  You should replace the “ClientInstallTemp.exe” file with the “ClientInstallTemp.exe” attached to this article.  And re-subscribe the affected machines.

To replace the ClientInstallTemp.exe file, perform the following tasks.

1)    Download the attached .ZIP file to this KB article and extract the ClientInstallTemp.EXE file from it.

2)    Browse to the ClientInstallFiles folder located here by default: C:\Program Files\New Boundary\ClientInstallFiles\

3)    Replace the ClientInstallTemp.EXE with the extracted file version of the ClientInstallTemp.exe.

Once the file has been replaced, you will need to reinstall the client on the affected machines so that they update to the new Client files that are no longer problematic.

3)     Upgrade the existing Client computers in the Channel by doing one of the following:

a) Subscription file:

· Select Computers | Create Subscription File.

· Select the Install or Update the Client option.

· Save the new subscription executable in a shared location that is available to the target computers.

· Create a Command Task to run the new subscription file. After the Task is created, right-click on it and choose Properties. On the Command tab, uncheck “wait for completion.” On the Execution tab, configure the Task to run attended and as the current user. A subscription file Command Task should always be configured to run as the current user. (This is the default setting for a Task.)

b) Direct Installation: The Direct method upgrades the client files on the target computers and updates their communication settings based on the Client Settings chosen in Step 2. A reboot must occur before the installation is complete.

· Right-click on one or more computers in the Managed view.

· Select Reinstall Client.

· Complete the steps in the Direct Client Installation dialog box.
