Prism Patch Manager 6.4 SP2a (Server)
Prism Patch Manager (PPM) 6.4 SP2a can either be installed as an upgrade to an existing installation or as a new installation.
Important: New Boundary Technologies strongly recommends that you identify a dedicated server for PPM 6.4 that doesn’t run other mission-critical applications.
· Server Requirements – PPM 6.4 can only be installed on Windows 2003 Server SP2 32-bit or Windows 2003 Server R2 SP2 32-bit. IIS with ASP.net must be installed prior to installing PPM 6.4. No trace of previous SQL installations can exist on the server where PPM will be installed, otherwise the installation will fail. PPM 6.4 installs its own instance of SQL Express 2005 SP2. Please refer to the Related Articles section at the bottom of this article for full system requirements.
· Known Issue – Uninstalling PPM 6.4 also uninstalls SQL Express 2005, which deletes all database stores that are part of SQL Express 2005, whether or not they are related to PPM 6.4. Therefore, if you install any third party applications after installing PPM 6.4 that create databases within SQL Express 2005, and then you uninstall PPM 6.4, all databases will be deleted. That's why we strongly recommend that you choose a dedicated server for PPM. If that isn’t possible, it is critical that you set up a regular database backup routine for all application databases on the PPM 6.4 server.
Installing prerequisite Microsoft Patch
Prior to installing or upgrading PPM 6.4 SP2a, you must install a Microsoft patch that allows Windows Installer (.msi) files larger then 500MB to be installed. The PPM 6.4 SP2a installer file is 526MB in size, so this patch is a prerequisite. It can be downloaded from the link in the Related External Links section at the end of this article. The patch requires a reboot; after the reboot, you can run the installation of PPM 6.4 SP2a.
