Obtaining the Latest Manufacturer Information for Scanned Assets

Problem

Occasionally some scanned assets have either missing or incorrect information in the Manufacturer field on the Scanned assets grid of Prism Console. This usually means that the NDManufacturerLookup table in the Prism channel database is out of date. The NDManufacturerLookup table in Prism Asset Manager is a “snapshot” of the registry maintained by IEEE.org that maps MAC addresses to manufacturers.

A scanned device with a missing manufacturer can occur if the device’s MAC address was recently registered with IEEE.org.  An incorrect manufacturer can occur if a company changed its name or has been acquired by another company since the last time the table was updated.

Solution

The solution is to update the NDManufacturerLookup table in the Prism channel database so that it has the latest information available from IEEE.org. Please contact New Boundary Technologies’ Support Team (support@newboundary.com) to request a SQL script that will update the NDManufacturerLookup table. Support will walk you through the process of running the SQL script against your Prism channel database(s).

There is no need to re-scan your network after running the script. The next time you refresh the scanned assets within the Prism Console, any changed or new manufacturer information will be shown in place of what was there before.
