Greetings-

I am trying to release licenses within Prism Deploy.  I found other articles describing how to reset the license count.  I am unsure, however, about actually releasing the license.

Is the license released when the computer is deleted from PRISM?

Also, what is the cleanest way to uninstall the client from a computer through PRISM?

Thanks for your help.

A computer releases its license when it is deleted from the channel.  The only exception to this rule is if this same computer is a licensed member of another channel on the same Prism Deploy Server.  In order to see the new licenses in the pool after deleting a computer, the Prism Server must be restarted.  This can be done by right-clicking on the Prism Deploy Channel Manager in the task tray.  Choose Stop Channel Server and then Start Channel Server.  Check the channel's license properties to see that the license has been added back to the pool.

The best way to uninstall the Client from a target computer via a channel is to use a Subscription File.  This can be done by choosing Generate Subscription File... from the Deployment menu.

1.  Leave the option "Subscribe to the channel" and click Next-> (Important: If you change this option, the client will not report back that it has been successfully uninstalled.  It will simply uninstall itself and stop communicating.)
2.  Choose "Uninstall the client" and click Next->
3.  Uncheck (or not) the user prompts and click Next->
4.  Save the file as a *.PWSubs or a *.EXE in a location accessible to the target machines.

Create a Command Task in the Console and point it to file that you just created.  For example:

\\server\share\UninstallClient.PWSubs

This Command Task can then be assigned to any computer that you wish to uninstall the Client from.  When the Task completes, the status column of the Console will show "Uninstalled".  The computer can then be manually deleted to recover its license.
