A folder has been created under c:\program files\sifxinst with many of the rollback pwr files in that folder. I understand how this works.

However I also notice a file called Select DM Server.exe - one of my self-installing files located in this folder.

In my startup folder I have a shortcut called Install Pending Files - this points to the file C:\Program Files\SIFXINST\SIFXINST.EXE program with an optional paramater /ApplyPending.

Now recently I have noticed that when I try installing a new self-installing file (I will call it test.exe), that the Select DM Server self-installing file launches first and disrupts the installation of my test.exe program. I figure this has something to do with the install pending files shortcut and /applypending parameter.

A simple solution would be to delete the Select DM Server.exe file from the C:\Program Files\SIFXINST folder altogether - I will do this.

However a more basic question is how to "stop" the Install Pending Files shortcut from being created in the startup folder in the first place when I deploy a self installing file - I do not want this shortcut to be created at all. I just noticed though a behavior that isn't so great.

If I bring up a machine in OU=A, Prism creates an OU=A and puts the machine into it. Then I move that machine to OU=B, Prism creates OU=B, and a new object for the machine is created in B, but the old one in A isn't removed, so now the machine installs applications assigned to both OUs. This seems like a flaw to me. In AD, a machine can only exist in one place, so why in the AD replicated portion of the managed machines should it be able to exist in two? It would make sense to me that if Prism Console detected the exact same computer name appearing in a new location, it should remove the older computer object with the same name. This of course would only be within the AD structure that Prism Console is replicating, it should still remain in any manually assigned groups. The way it stands, I now have to managed machines from two locations, instead of one, ruining much of my initial excitement over the Active Directory integration. Am I using it wrong or missing something?

Determine when software was last used

I am hoping someone can help me with this. What is the best (most efficient and reliable) way to remove undesirable software from a clients PC?

Specific example. I am trying to recognize when a client PC has Yahoo Messenger installed and, when detected, uninstall it. I've run up against several issues so far.

Setup so far is the following:

A configuration group to check for Yahoo messenger.
Under this group, are two entries. The first checks for a registry key specific to the install of Yahoo Messenger. The second is All Others. These configuration groups work properly, assigning the client PC to the appropriate group.

A package to assign a variable the value of the uninstall string for Yahoo Messenger, gained from the registry.

A script to run the package to populate the variable and run the uninstall string from the variable.

The script is assigned as a task to the group that finds Yahoo installed.

3 main issues here:
1. When the "Yahoo installed" group gets populated, the task doesn't seem to want to run unless I right click the task and reinstall.
2. The method of getting the uninstall string from the registry, while it ensures it will get the right location regardless of where the client installs Yahoo, also does not run a silent uninstall. The user is asked to confirm uninstallation. I would rather have a silent uninstall.
3. If the user cancels the uninstall, the task does not seem to run again, even though the computer is still listed in the "Yahoo installed" group.

Polling, as this is still a test environment, is set for continuous.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Pictaker.log location

Is it possible to change the default location for Pictaker.log (client's Windows directory) not only in scripts but for ALL tasks in a location on a server ??

Best way to roll XP SP2

I would like to roll out XP SP2 out to our workstations and want to know the best method using Deploy. Then the environment variable is queried to be input into a database.

What I am running into is that the ini value is properly updating and setting the system environment variable to the new value if it changes but the part that inputs to the database shows the old system environment variable value. If I were to run the .bat file manually instead of through being schedule by Deploy it works.

I tried restarting the PrismXL service to see if that would allow the new system variable to be recognized without a reboot without success. It is like the Deploy Client takes a snapsnot of all system variables at startup and won't release or update those values until a reboot is that correct?

File system configuration group

How can I use a configuration group to show me what File system each computers has. Since we intend on purchasing the Suite (purchasing paperwork is being done by our manager as we speak), we were wondering if its possible to do some kind of a SQL export of at least the asset info to a .sql file, then import it back into the new production SQL database after installation of the licensed Prism Suite.
Thanks

Dave Frandin

Stoller-Navarro
