Hi,

we are looking for a solution that would allow us to build Citrix servers and install \ publish applications on them.

So basically we need to do this :

1. Build 20 Windows2003 Server

2. Add Citrix Presentation Server 4.5

3. Add and publish 30 applications to each server

Currently we use Windows Automatced Deployment Services to build our Windows2003 servers.

For adding Citrix Presentation Server and all applications we use WISE packages. But maybe there is another way?

How could New Boundary products help us?

We need to deploy MS Office2003 / 2007 incl. user specific Outlook AddIns\Plugins  (CTI...) and SAP GUI including Bussiness Warehouse extensions and many other apps.

Could we use snapshots (eg. Snappy) for all our applications and simply push snapshots to the servers?

But what about user specific settings in Shadow-Keys - how could a snapshot handle this? I can not take a snapshot for each user....?

What are the limitations of snapshots here?

Or are Snapshots not a recommended way at all for deploying apps on a Citrix environment?

How could we set NFTS permissions if needed?

And how register DLLs / OCX if needed ?

Add local windows-groups to the Citrix Serverd and add users to them?

Thank you

Heinz

Prism Suite will definitely be able to assist you in configuring your Citrix Servers with 30 applications. You can use Prism Suite’s Package Editor to create packages of the apps. Then you can deploy them as Package Tasks from a Prism Channel. As long as the Citrix server that is used for creating the packages is put in install mode before starting to build the packages, they will contain the necessary “shadow” registry entries (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Terminal Server\Install\Software). When the package is deployed to the Citrix Server, the “shadow” registry entries will populate as usual to the user registry hives.

We have never tested creating a package for installing Citrix Presentation Server, so we don’t know what the pitfalls are. We will be happy to assist you in troubleshooting or analyzing a package that you create of Citrix Presentation Server.

We don’t recommend packaging the user-specific Outlook plugins as part of your Office Package. Instead, those could be deployed after Office is installed. Here is a link to a KB article that describes a similar scenario: http://www.nbtnet.newboundary.com/supportkb/Article.aspx?id=10168

Regarding registration of DLLs and OCX files, these can be captured in a package and deployed as a Package Task.

Regarding creating groups, adding users to groups, and setting NFTS permissions, we recommend that you use the internal commands (net group, xcacls, etc.) for those tasks. You can either deploy them as individual Command Tasks from the Prism Channel, or you can combine the commands in a batch file and deploy that as a Command Task from the Prism Channel.

Note: In order to manage your Citrix servers through a Prism Channel, you will need to have Deploy Server licenses. 5 Server licenses (and 20 Workstation licenses) are included with the evaluation version of Prism Deploy.
