I was working on enhancing our use of the asset management feature of the Prism Suite. And there are several reports that I would like to generate off of the asset management data that has been compliled by prism. I was wondering if there is a way to create custom reports outside of the current canned reports that prism has?

Thanks!

There are several options for customizing the reports that come with Prism Asset Manager.  You can create your own versions of the default reports that come with the Console.  Simply open one of them up and choose Save As...  This will give you a new report that you can use to add/remove fields, change groupings, or create filters.

Fields can be added by right-clicking on the header bar and choosing More Fields.  Drag the desired fields to the bar.  Groupings can be changed by dragging fields to/from the blue space above the header bar.  Filters can be created by clicking on the drop-down arrow of a field and choosing Custom.

As we are constantly looking to improve the Asset Management experience, what type of report or information are you looking for from Prism that you cannot currently get?

one of the main reports that I am looking at doing is hardware reports on a per system status. We currently are getting ready to perform an hardware audit and a software audit and prism already tracks what hardware is out there and what software it has found. Now I would like to be able to cutomize the reports to allow me to report on a single system or on a group of systems. It already has a canned report for all systems now I just want to pair that down to be more spicific to a group of systems or just one system.

Same thing for the software. Prism reports on all software it finds on a system however I would just want to creat a report lets say on just Office, or project, or Visual Studio, or even be able to create some sort of report that just pulls all the systems that have our software installed and omit all the rest of the software like AOL or MSN messanger garbage that I could care less about.

It would be nice to have a report building functionality in the asset manager so that I can just build a report using a tool and save it for use in the future. Or so I can create a canned report for other users to use so that they don't have to go through the pain of doing it themselfs

Also I would like to note that prism does a great job of finding all the hardware out there just not so good when I comes to reporting on it on a per system basis. for example

system1

-Bios

-memory

-ect

system2

-Bios

-Memeory

-ect

that is the kind of report I would like to create from the information that prism has. And is there a way to create fields off of the information that prism finds. for example I noticed that i captures in some casetes the assett tag information from the cmos this would be a great field to include in the report.

Right now the report for hardware that is in the system is useful only if you are looking for systems that are group under lets say bios version or number of memory slots. I would like to do just the revers of this and have it report the system and what hardware that system has and to do that based on the system or a group of systems that I can select or filter for.

does that make since??

Thanks for all the great suggestions.

One of these might be able to be done with the current reporting functionality.  If you want to create a report that contains just one piece of software and every computer that has that software, open the Installed Applications Summary report.  Click the blue drop-down arrow and choose the Application of interest.  This will automatically create a filter so the report is now only showing you the application you want.  Click on the Computer column to sort the list alphabetically.

If you see a computer listed more than once per application right click on the column header bar and choose More Fields.  Drag the Path field onto the column header.  Turn off Word Wrap if the paths are too long.  If a machine has a backup copy of the application in a second location, it will be listed twice in this report.  To remove the extra entries click the blue drop-down for the Path column and choose (Custom).  Select "is not like" from the drop-down and enter something like "*\dllcache\*" (without the quotes).  This will exclude all the rows that have applications backed up in the dllcache folder.  Replace \dllcache\ as necessary for your environment.
